Teacher-vs-teacher Challenges
Challenge the class down the hall.
Invite another teacher to a head-to-head contest. Both classes answer the same prompt, every entry is scored against the same rubric, and a teacher reviews and publishes one shared ranking.
Starting a challenge is part of Pro. Accepting one is free.

How it works
Set the prompt and send the invite.
Choose Challenge when you create a contest, write the prompt, and enter the other teacher’s email. Choose 1–10 entries per class and an optional deadline. You also choose whether scoring starts automatically after the deadline and whether you can adjust results before publishing.
They accept and send their entries.
The invitation link shows the prompt, the entry limit and the due date before the other teacher decides. They create a free account, or sign in, to accept and send entries. Both teachers see the same entry limit, deadline and result-adjustment setting before the challenge is accepted.
One ranking, published by a teacher.
The computer panel scores entries from both classes together, against the same rubric. Scoring can start automatically after the deadline when that option is enabled. You review the results and publish them. Nothing is public until you do.
What each class gets
The same prompt, the same rules.
Both classes work from one prompt. The entry limit, deadline and result-adjustment setting are shown to both teachers before the challenge is accepted.
The same yardstick.
Every entry, from either classroom, is scored against the same criteria. Both classes appear in one ranking.
One shared ranking.
Published rankings are public. You can choose to show places only up to a number you pick. Students below that point are not named publicly, but their families still receive their own child’s result.
A record that lasts.
With a free account, the invited teacher gets their own dashboard, certificates and family emails, so results go on the record on both sides.
FAQ
Do I need Pro to start a challenge?
Yes. Creating a Challenge is part of the Pro plan ($12/month or $98/year). It counts toward your plan’s contest limit only once it is completed. Accepting a challenge is free and never uses the invited teacher’s contest slots.
Does the other teacher need a MeritBoard account?
Yes, a free one. The invitation link lets them see the prompt, entry limit and due date before deciding. A free account gives them their own dashboard, certificates and family emails. Teachers with an account can also accept or decline from Incoming Challenges in their dashboard.
Who scores the entries, and who has the final say?
MeritBoard’s computer panel scores entries from both classes together, against the same rubric. The teacher who started the challenge reviews the results and decides when to publish them. Whether that teacher can adjust results is set before acceptance and cannot change afterward. Nothing is public until a teacher publishes it.
Can the rules change after the other teacher accepts?
Both teachers see the entry limit, the deadline and whether the host may adjust results before publishing before the challenge is accepted, so both classes agree to the same terms up front.
Who can see the results?
Published rankings are public, as they are for every MeritBoard contest. By default, all places are listed. The host can choose to show places only up to a set number. Students below that point are not named publicly, but their families still receive their own child’s result.
Send the first invitation.
Pick a prompt, invite a colleague, and let both classes show their best work.
